Patchwork and Quilting Supplies

It's been a while since our last post, so read on to find out what's been happening at Quiltaholics!

Hi everyone,

I hope this Easter long weekend finds you all well and with lots of time for stitching! We are well, but struggling to find time to stitch, or do much else for that matter! We have been busy as ever whilst settling into our Mt Barker premises, but we are loving it here more than ever. It's been a while between blog posts from me as we have been so flat out, but I thought I'd take a quick moment to check in with you all and let you know what's been happening in the shop!

Since our last post we have had Ming's Machine Quilting Workshop and Needleturn Applique Workshop, both of which were a HUGE success! Comments on the workshops and Ming's teaching included:

"You learn so much from Ming, she's very generous with her knowledge, and I've found that not all teachers are' (Anna); 'Ming is just brilliant, I've been to other workshops where the time dragged, but today the time just flew by!' (Sheree) & 'I loved my workshop with Ming, she is just so patient and makes sure that everyone understands' (Heather).

I was also lucky enough to have Ming talk me through her very own needleturn technique that the girls were learning. I couldn't believe how simple it was, never in a million years did I think needle turn would ever be so achievable for me! I'm now itching to get started on a needleturn project but it will have to join the que, as there are many other projects that need to be completed first! Ahhh the problems a quilter must deal with! :)

Earlier this month we were lucky enough to be the shop at the Quilters' Guild of South Australia's monthly meeting and had a great time catching up with both new and old customers. It was a great opportunity to introduce our new premises to old customers who haven't been able to make the trip up, and the Guild were kind enough to let us present a slide show of images of the new shop. We've since seen Guild members popping up to Mt Barker to say hello and have a look for themselves, which is fantastic, and we look forward to seeing many more as time goes on! We are also very excited to be one of the shops at Quilt Encounter later in the year, but more on that a little later on.

For those of you who haven't been instore over the past few weeks, we are very excited to welcome our newest team member, Heather, to Quiltaholics. Heather will be working Mondays with us to start with, but you'll see more of her as time goes by. We are very lucky to have such a lovely lady join us, and she saved the day last Thursday when Cheryl and I both needed a day off for my graduation! So keep an eye out for Heather when you're in next, and please be patient while she learns the ropes, but I don't think it will take her long :)

Cheryl has been busy whipping up shop samples in her 'spare time' (I don't know how she does it!) and has come up with some stunning projects. Here is 'Rising Sun', a simple yet effective quilt she designed using panel pieces and 2 coordinate fabrics. I love the quilting in the 4 patches!

Next is a Leesa Chandler pattern featuring a new range of stunning poppy fabrics. This one is sure to sell VERY quickly!

We also have the first of the 4 small Thimbleberries projects on display in the shop:

Cheryl has also designed a golfing quilt, named 'Golfing Daze', which has been donated to the Leukaemia Foundation as a raffle prize for one of their sponsors' fundraising golf days:

Now, I have not been doing as much stitching as Cheryl, however yesterday's weather at Mt Barker was definitely Quilting weather, so I was able to get block 2 of Dear William fused together. I still haven't finished block one, of course! But now block 2 is on it's way too :) The girls doing the BOM will be able to pick up their block 2 soon!

So, that is about it on the project front for the moment. There are a lot more things on the go in our sewing room of course, however there's only so much we can put in one blog post!

Before I go, just a quick note about the first ever Littlehampton Ladies Evening! We are lucky enough to have a stall at this event and are really looking forward to it! Please come by to say hello and to support the community! We will have lots of goodies for sale from fabric, to haby, and even gifty bits and pieces! Plus, we have donated vouchers for the raffle prizes and a pack for the silent auction, so it's a great way to grab a bargain!

Lastly, we have been getting LOTS of stunning new fabric deliveries, but we're running out of room to put it all! So keep your eyes and ears out for details about our members only sale! It is not to be missed, more details will be coming soon (make sure you read the next issue of our newsletter!)!

Just a reminder we are closed ALL 4 DAYS over the Easter long weekend, including Saturday. We wish you all a safe and happy long weekend and a lovely Easter

Happy Quilting!

P.S. For all those who have very kindly asked after my studies over the last few years, here's a happy pic of Mum (Cheryl) and I at graduation (Honours in Psychology)! It was lovely to have her there, thanks again Heather for working for us!
