2013 Block of the Month Projects!

Posted by AnnaLisa DiMonte on February 5, 2013 at 6:50 PM

Hello again,

What a busy couple of weeks we have had here at Quiltaholics! We have been absolutely flat out, which is fantastic, but has meant we haven't had time for all the 'behind-the-scenes' organising, blogging, etc etc. We have received all the information for two of this year's block of the month (BOM) projects that we will be running, and I'm very excited to post some details about them both here!!

The first BOM project is the 'Dear William' Sampler Quilt, a William Morris quilt designed by Michele Hill. The quilt photo is already loaded in our online store as a kit, but will be available as a BOM for $30/month including postage ($27/month pick up)! As you can see in the photo below, the quilt consists of 9 stunning Applique blocks, and don't be fooled by the colourings in this picture which do not do the beautiful fabrics justice! It is a lovely range of William Morris prints ranging from rich, dark colourings to lighter, softer shades. The finished quilt measures a very generous 73" square.

We have started putting our shop sample together and it is great fun! We have decided to do ours with machine raw-edge applique, below is a 'work in progress' photo of block one being constructed. The pieces have been ironed on with fusible web, and are waiting to be stitched down. I have chosen some beautiful sil threads to use, and can't wait to get sewing! Block one is on display in the shop if you're interested in a closer look, plus you can see all the fabrics in the flesh and see for yourself just how stunning the range is! But, for now, Dear William is going on hold so I can start block one of our next BOM to put on display...

We are excited to announce our second BOM for 2013, 'It's Time for Christmas' by Bronwyn Hayes. This is a BOM run by Homespun Magazine for 2013. Block patterns will be published in each issue, which we will sell in-store, and all fabric requirements for each month will be available from us in a BOM pack! We are excited to be one of only 3 stores in SA stocking this full BOM! 'It's Time for Christmas' is a gorgeous quilt featuring a combination of applique and embroidery blocks, as Bronwyn does just so well! The quilt uses the stunning French General fabric ranges, and makes it a beautifully unique christmas project! As the quilt is done block by block, month by month, it is a very achievable way to complete a detailed quilt ready for christmas!

I'm very excited to start block one today, as our pattern only arrived yesterday afternoon, and as soon as it is finished I will pop it up in-store for customers to view, plus i'll be sure to post a photo online :) We are stocking the magazine each month, so make sure you pop in-store to sign up soon before all the spots fill up!! Have a look at the gorgeous quilt pictured below, i'm sure you'll all agree it is a lovely design that, once made, will be treasured for many Christmases to come!

Unfortunately at this stage BOM's cannot be purchased online, I'm not that tech savy!! However please visit us in-store, call, email, or contact us using the form on our website (located on the contact us page) if you would like any more information or to sign up! We are happy to take payments over the phone and can then post out your project month by month :)

I'm off now to get tracing, but I will be back soon to keep you all posted on these two lovely projects and everything else that is happening in the shop!

Happy Quilting!

Hi Susan,

It will be $25 per month over 10 months. Each month you will receive the latest issue of Homespun Magazine featuring the month's pattern, all your fabrics needed for that month and any DMC threads and buttons required. We are not including things like Vliesofix and interfacings in the price, but we do sell these if you don't have any at home and can add it on each month if necessary. At the end of the 10 months you will have the complete pattern and fabrics for your quilt top , plus your binding fabric. The wadding and backing is not included in this price and postage will cost extra, however if you live locally you are welcome to pick it up in store. If you do not want the DMC threads included in the price, it will be $22/month.

We're expecting the magazines any day now, so you can pick up your first block as soon as they come in.

Hope this all makes sense, please let us know if you have any questions and either call or reply online if you would like to confirm your place!

Thanks,
AnnaLisa.
